Government participation in the marketplace [GOVMARK]

 Updates

14/07/2011

This database contains snapshots of government participation in market sector companies in 1997, 2003 and 2009. The main information it presents is the participation distribution by government level, legal status of the company or industry.

The Federal Planning Bureau (FPB) periodically releases figures on market sector shares held by the different levels of government (federal, regional or local) in recent years. Only stakes representing at least 5% of a company’s capital are published; strictly public sector activities are not included. Currently, the database covers three years: 1997, 2003 et 2009.

The financial data on capital, value added and total financial assets exclude banks and insurance companies, which follow a different procedure for their annual accounts, as well as small non-profit organizations, which are not obliged to file annual accounts at the Central Balance Sheet Office. Since 2006, large non-profit organizations have been required to file annual accounts at the Central Balance Sheet Office. The equity capital of non-profit organizations is composed of the organisation’s own funds, the result carried forward and other funds. As they have no capital, they are not listed in tables 8 and 9.
