Indicators complementing GDP [INDIC_BGDP]

 Updates

06/02/2023

The indicators complementary to the gross domestic product (GDP) provide information on social, environmental and economic issues. Together, they describe the evolution of people's well-being and of the Belgian society. All 70 indicators are available in French and Dutch.

Since 2016, these indicators have been published in an annual report. They are developed by the Federal Planning Bureau within the framework of the National Accounts Institute (Act of 14 March 2014 on the complementary indicators). The choice of the 67 indicators, which are divided in 13 themes, is based in particular on the Conference of European Statisticians Recommendations on Measuring Sustainable Development (2014).

The figures cover the 1990-2015 period.

The 13 themes are:

  • Subjective well-being,
  • Standard of living and poverty,
  • Labour and leisure,
  • Health,
  • Education and training,
  • Society,
  • Environment,
  • Climate,
  • Energy,
  • Natural resources,
  • Land and ecosystems,
  • Economic capital,
  • Mobility and transport
