Description: Business confidence is widely used to refer to the results of surveys conducted in various industries of the economy. However, the scope of business confidence indicators can be different. While the EC, INSEE (France) and CBS (Netherlands) publish indicators that are calculated on the basis of the manufacturing industry survey, the indicators calculated by the NBB (Belgium) and IFO (Germany) are based on the results of surveys in the manufacturing industry, construction, services and retail trade.

Unit: Difference between optimistic and pessimistic answers in percent of total answers (European Commission, NBB, IFO, CBS), index with a long-term average of 100 (INSEE), seasonally adjusted series
